Students will have access to graphing calculators for rigorous math classes. Many students currently do not have access to graphing calculators and so they cannot meet all the standards in an upper level math course.
These graphing calculators would provide equity so that students from lower-income families could still access the full content in an upper level math course. There are many standards that show this need, and I have selected two below. There are many besides these.
Standard A-REI.C.9: Find the inverse of a matrix if it exists and use it to solve linear equations (using technology for matrices of dimension 3 x 3 or greater.)
Standard F-LE.A.4: For exponential models, express as a logarithm the solution to abct = d where a, c, and d are numbers and the base b is 2, 10, or e; evaluate the logarithm using technology.
