Organized access to picture books, magazines, and student created books will be engaging and motivating for students. A cozy rug will designate a space for teacher read aloud time and for independent reading time for students. Students tend to show more interest when they know how to access and organize materials that they are reading. They become comfortable with using them and understand the expectations of that particular area. The books are able to be organized by genre and that increases student understanding of classifying different types of text. Adding a rug to the area creates an inviting environment, as well as a designated "zone" for reading. It will be a very useful and comfortable area.
