Focusing in class can be very tasking for many students. As students get older, they are asked to stay focused on one task for longer periods of time. Many of my students have mentioned that headphones will help them stay focused while working on assignments on the computer and will give them the opportunity to hear the material that's being presented or that they have researched on their own. I want to give students the opportunity to be successful in class and at home by giving them headphones they can use for classwork and homework.
Students who have a functional classroom with necessary materials and cool down activities have more success. Having the materials to practice what they have learned with flash cards can break up the monotony and provide learning experiences that get students up and moving. This allows them to be more focused later on. After students work so hard to complete their academic tasks, they benefit from completing cool down tasks that still activate the brain. Puzzles give students the opportunity to challenge themselves, work as a team, take a break, and socialize with others all at once. When a classroom is functional and conducive to learning, the students' success soars.
