The purpose of this is to call small groups up to the teacher to work on reading skills to improve reading comprehension. The majority of my students are already below grade levels standards in reading and I am working this year to change that. By working with students in small groups, I can target and meet individual needs. I can better give each child the support that they need. A guided, kidney-shaped reading table will allow me to see and sit my students comfortably during the reading workshop. It will provide a separate space that allows me to call over children for reading in groups. Every child will be a part of this reading experience. A kidney-shaped table will maximize the principles behind guided reading because I will be able to pull over children not only by table grouping, but by needs. I know that every child in my classroom will benefit from more individualized instruction.
