This project is to help set up my classroom in a more user-friendly and organized manner. Currently, I don't have enough calculators to supply my whole class with. Additionally, I run Special Education Algebra classes where many of my students have legal accommodations that I must abide by which includes the use of a calculator. The other items I requested for my project include a 3-hole-punch, pencils, and tape dispensers to help ensure my students stay organized. Since students use computers so heavily now, my students often come unprepared to math class without a pencil. Also, freshmen students are learning how to become organized young adults, and these supplies will help and encourage them to do so.
My main project is to get a class set of calculators that can be easily stored and accounted for so they can be used for many years to come. The calculators I currently have are not labelled and do not have anywhere to be easily accessed and stored. Plus, there is not a place where I can easily account for all of the used calculators by the end of class. Therefore, I included a clear calculator caddy in which my students can return their calculators to in an organized fashion and I can make sure all of the calculators get returned to me. The masking tape is included so I can label each calculator so they can easily be returned if borrowed. Another reason these calculators are important is because students have a terrible habit of using their cell phones for everything, yet cell phones are not allowed during class. Therefore, if I don't have enough calculators, students are tempted to use their cell phones instead.
