We all know that second graders have trouble sitting still for a full 90-minute lesson. My students strive the most when they are given the opportunity to finish an activity outside of their desk area. Our typical lessons include teacher modeling, cooperation work, and independent time. During independent time, students are able to participate in flexible seating. As long as they are able to complete their assignment, they can sit or lay anywhere. They live for this opportunity! Unfortunately, They do not have many options to sit on.
My students are engaged the most when wiggles are taken out by moving to a new area in the classroom. These specific donated materials will do nothing but benefit the students' academic growth! Having a huge rug, and cushions will give the class a comfortable selection of seats. Having clipboards assigned to each student will ensure their ability to complete their activity sheets with no worries. No more pencils breaking through the papers or constant movement on the carpet to find a comfortable sitting position. If the students are comfortable, they will be fully engaged in any assignment they are expected to complete.
