Unlike most classrooms, ours does not have a Smartboard or similar technology needed to fortify lessons with the visual and audio elements that are necessary for teaching all students.
A multi-sensory approach to education is the most effective way to engage students with learning disabilities. Images help attract the attention of my students with attention challenges. Images also aid in comprehension of texts and help convey concepts to my struggling readers. Reinforcing what students have learned with a parallel video helps improve recall.
In addition to these missed opportunities, every day tasks such as note taking and class announcements take twice as long on a chalk board. The flexibility of providing written notes or demonstrating skills such as annotation for the full group would be much more effective with a projector.
Please help me give my students better access to an education they deserve.
