I have recently used a graphic novel I purchased through Amazon to help heighten my students understanding of the novel The Crossover in my 8th grade literature class. It helps the student connect more with the characters in the novel as well as captivate their motivation to read the text more.
I will be using these graphic novels to work alongside the original novels we have in our class sets in order to bring out those learning styles that all our students have that are not just words on paper. I, also as a person who is still learning, see that using graphic novels also places me in the world of the characters as it does for my students who I have used the pictures from my graphic novel with. If we can get these books into their hands, it will create more opportunities for my students to become better critical thinkers and avid readers.
