Kindergarten is a great place for students to be introduced to learning in a fun and engaging ways! For many of my students this is their first experience learning in the classroom and it shows in their data.
Many of them have not had any previous support with their phonics, Phonemic awareness, High Frequency words, or comprehension. By using engaging small group manipulatives, not only will I be able to reach them on a higher level but they will stay engaged while making a deeper connection with their reading skills. By using the small groups manipulatives such as the phonics puzzles and games, early leveled readers, and word building games I will be reading my students and giving memorable lessons with all of their differentiated needs.
This is the same for their math skills. I plan on using these math manipulatives to help them gain a better understanding of their number sense and number operations. Thus allowing them to become fast and fluent learners before they leave for the First Grade.
I plan on using lap desks during everyday whole group and small group instruction. With Covid-19 policies, my students are keeping all of their learning materials on their desks, and this is making a chaotic learning environment for them to work independently. I plan on giving them their own places using lap desks so that they can work freely, and have their materials cleanly organized in their desks. This also allows them to choose between working in their traditional desk or on the carpet using their lap desk. Which is a great choice for a student who has an IEP and has difficulty staying in their desk and works more efficiently when presented choices in their own learning.
