It's no surprise that the pandemic left our young people feeling isolated and in need of community. By running the OR Battle of the Books, I will be able to create a community of readers who will build their literacy skills as well as make up for lost time rebuilding friendships with their peers.
Participating in the OR Battle of the Books is a perfect way for students to reconnect while bolstering their literacy.
The first informational meeting for OR Battle of the Books (OBOB) was standing room only. Over 60 students showed up. As of now, we don't have enough books for the students to read. If this project is funded, I will be able to get more books into their hands. This will make sure resources are equitable and that the program is a success.
