Until this year, my students have never had what you would call a "normal" school experience. With the COVID shut down affecting both their Preschool and Kindergarten years, many of my students are experiencing being in a classroom for the very first time. Students need exposure to manipulatives, visuals, small groups, and an overall warm, caring classroom environment to help make the transition from remote learning to in-seat learning full-time a smooth one. Resources like large poster paper and a large storage cart can help create lots of visual aids like anchor charts for learning and can help us keep our classroom organized and running smoothly.
This group of first graders really are my heroes. With all of the chaos they have endured in their first years of life, it is amazing to see them coming into school each day with excitement and smiles on their faces, eager to learn. It is my hope to make their first real learning experience a happy and memorable one.
