In a year where students are experiencing their first taste of normalcy in three years, emotions are high. I have seen my students suffer from anxiety and self-doubt more than ever. My students are slowly learning ways to regulate their emotions while still being successful in my classroom. I have one of these cubes I won at a staff development on my desk. Every day there is a different student asking to use it. They are able to fidget quietly without disrupting themselves or the class. It is a simple tool they are able to grab discreetly and still participate in class. Having these cubes to allow my students to use will bring peace to those students who need it. 8th graders also appreciate the simple things from their younger years. Stickers are a great way to send an encouraging message to brighten their day.
