Biology is a fascinating, diverse topic that ranges from the microscopic world to the entire biosphere. One of the goals is for students to understand the scale of living things and how abiotic factors affect both micro and macroscopic organisms.
When students are taught competition in the natural world, they always think of a coyote chasing a rabbit, but competition can also be seen on a microscopic level. What they don't know is that paramecium competes with another paramecium. Daphnia is prey to the hydra. These microscopes will be used by the students to explore nature on a smaller scale and open their eyes to a new world!
