Dusty’s Awesome Alphabet Sounds is a great gift to get my students right in time for the holidays. Many of the students I serve come from moderate to low income households. There is a strong correlation between that, and the likelihood of them having access to high quality text at home. Getting these coloring books would be a great way to help support them on their path to reading.
The books are particularly important because they have a beautiful, and handsome familiar character on each page teaching each student the alphabet sounds. The book is enticing, and also gives students the autonomy to design their own version of the book. Being able to draw, and color is a critical skill that is introduced and reinforced in Pre-K. The book will serve many purposes across disciplines such as improving phonemic awareness, practicing fine motor skills, and making room for creativity.
