I start each class with 10 minutes of reading. Students come in, grab a pillow and find a comfy spot to read. They love it! It's a way for them to get calm and ready for class especially after navigating busy hallways. They report language improvement and enjoyment. When they write, I always notice new vocabulary words that they have learned from individual reading time.
The best way to increase vocabulary in a language is to read. To get students to read, I need a wide variety of books in French that are comprehensible and interesting for students. Currently, I have a limited selection. Students have told me the types of books they would like to read. I have included many of these types in this request.
This collection of books cover a wide variety of interests from sports to mystery from stories that take place in France to stories that take place in West Africa, Louisiana, Quebec and French-speaking Caribbean.
I have chosen beginner to more advanced books and some non-fiction works also. I have also included items to store and display them in my classroom.
I also need more storage items for presenting the books and reading incentives. Besides individual novels, I would like to have access to teacher materials for some novels and current event newsletters which are available on Teachers Pay Teachers.
