I serve about 100 sixth grade students annually in my classroom at Innes. My students come from the working class areas of Akron, Ohio. Our school has a 100% economically disadvantage population. With this comes many challenges of transient living, homelessness, gang violence, and the many concerns of an "at risk" environment. My students show up daily to learn and improve their skills even when life at home can be unpredictable and unstable at times. My students love to interact socially, compete, and push each other as we learn in a collaborative classroom environment.
