Math games, science projects, and books will motivate students to see math and science beyond the lessons in our classroom. Games and activities will provide hands-on learning, collaboration, and math talk that is so essential to engage and motivate students to LOVE math. Through math games students will work with others, problem solve, talk, and reinforce the concepts they are learning in 5th grade. Math games will allow students to work productively in small groups while I am working with students to either reinforce or extend their math thinking. I have run math groups for many years and I believe it is key to differentiation in math. Math games will be an important component of my centers and students enjoy doing a variety of math activities during their math period.
