My third grade students are part of a Title I school; with most of them not having been in person since the middle of first grade. As part of lower socio-economic neighborhood/area, many of the students and their families receive school supplies and clothes to assist their learning. There are many English Language Learners and many are still learning to read. For example, the copy paper will be used to provide reading fluency passages and math fluency games to students who do not have the resources while at home. The writing tools will be used to incentivize students to earn better materials throughout the year in a class materials economy. This is to teach responsibility and respect for their own materials.
Students are learning to love the school environment. Since most of the students have not been in school since 1st grade, school has been a vastly different experience from an academic and social standpoint. Tools like dry erase markers, paper, poster board will help provide students the resources to learn in creative ways. In my classroom, I provide a safe and fun learning environment where students get to interact and learn content through games. Students either always ask for these materials, so the items funded in this project is to provide students a chance at times to earn these materials so they can play them outside the classroom.
