Students will learn how to make emulsions and color dyes. The overhead stirrer will be used to completely homogenize the ingredients. Most people are taught that water and oil don't mix however with additives and heat application these two phases come together to make a emulsion. The students will learn what additives will bring different combinations of oil and water solutions together using a hydrophilic-lipophilic-barrier (HLB) system. There are several different oils but only a few emulsion systems that work effectively. At the completion of this project the students will be able to independently create their own emulsion.
