The provision of flexible seating for small groups will allow my students to learn while sitting in a seat other than a desk chair. In addition, sensory bands for their desk seats will allow them an alternative for moving and tapping their feet or wiggling in their seats while learning at their desks. The sensory bands significantly assist students in their ability to concentrate while sitting at their desks. Materials for learning such as a whiteboard easel, sentence highlighting strips, chart paper, large foam dice, and a number line will provide the students with materials that will assist them in their understanding of the lesson. Through the use of social-emotional materials, I will be able to work with my students on their ability to identify and express emotions. Organizational products such as pencil boxes and storage boxes will provide me and my students with a place to safely store games, manipulatives, and books.
When provided with the opportunity to learn through the use of literacy games and math manipulatives, my students have demonstrated a higher level of engagement. I will use decodable books, learning dice, play-doh, tens frames, sentence building games, phonics games, CVC word building cards, CVC word puzzles, and sight word games to strengthen my student's understanding of phonics, addition and subtraction, word problems, sentence building, and reading.
Engagement is where learning occurs.
