Students will demonstrate their understanding of the mathematical/geometric skills and concepts by applying them to real-live scenarios. They will design and build a model/replica of their dream home or a home that addresses a social cause such as homelessness in our community.
They will apply many mathematical (geometric) concepts such as scale drawing, transformations, budgeting, area, and perimeter. Each student will create a unique version based on their own ideas, imagination, and application of skills. Additionally, this project based learning activity integrates multiple elements such as problem solving, collaboration, design, and planning that connects the activity to real-life applications.
The geometric tools such as compasses, protractor, and straight edges will allow students to measure and construct accurate scale drawings. The calculator will allow them to perform complex mathematical calculations used in determining correct measurements and accurate budgets.
