After a year of homeschooling, I spoke with a lot of students who were at home alone and didn't know how to make themselves a simple meal. I also have spoke to students who don't understand how to make a meal budget. By having these materials I can have the student create a menu, choose ingredients based on their budget, prepare the meal, and serve the meal. I believe that these skills will benefit them now and in their future.
Most of my students are living at or below poverty levels and food insecurity is real among this population. I hope to help them gain the ability to prepare a healthy meal for them and their families within their budget. I hope to inspire them to learn how to make fresh, healthy food instead of opting for fast food.
