My students are always concerned with how class material applies directly to them. I would love to use the storylines of "Through the Woods," "Hey, Kiddo" and "Grand Theft Horse" to provide books that have real-world connections and themes that support developing research skills. The format of the graphic novel appeals to this generation of visual learners and provides a gateway to connect the written word with media literacy. I want to help students sharpen their social skills when it comes to interpreting not only text but facial expressions and images.
