My students want to create and perform a show that represents who they are in the world and speaks to them based on their experiences of their cultures. At the moment, our script library is very limited and we would like to expand it so that the students can read plays from women playwrights, LGBTQIA+ playwrights and BIPOC playwrights. We would also use the makeup and the paint to teach theatre makeup and scenic painting to students in the technical theatre side so that we can have more BIPOC students become interested in a viable and fulfilling career in theatrical makeup and scenic painting where they are underrepresented at the moment.
The playscripts, makeup, and paint will us actualize a future play that will represent ourselves as well as for shows to come. Having a library and supplies will engage students to read and begin to write their own plays and musicals to represent themselves.
TH:Cr3.HS.1I Practice and revise a devised or scripted theatre work using theatrical staging conventions.
TH:Cr3.HS.2I Explore physical, vocal, and physiological choices to develop a performance that is believable, authentic, and relevant to a theatre work.
TH:Cr3.HS.3I Refine technical design choices to support the story and emotional impact of a devised or scripted theatre work.
TH:Pr6.HS.1I Perform a scripted theatre work for a specific audience.
