The best kindergarten classrooms are those in which students' developmental level, as well as their innate interest in exploration and problem solving, are honored, encouraged and extended. The items requested in this project do just that!
First and foremost, the leveled reading sets will allow the students to engage in all of the Nevada Academic Content Standards for RL, RI and RF but will especially support RF.K.1 and RF.K.4. In addition, the sets will extend the students' reading experiences through the use of both fiction and nonfiction texts.
The bucket balance and counting set will extend the students' opportunities to build understanding of K.MD.1, K.MD.2, and K.CC.4 through exploratory centers that encourage student-centered problem solving.
The sand water table, magna-tiles set, highlighter tape, and dot art painters will allow students to engage in highly motivating STEM and art activities. In addition, the language development and social skills of all students will grow as a result.
Last but certainly not least, every single item within this project supports the learning of students who may not have had the opportunity to attend rich early learning and preschool environments/experiences during the Covid Pandemic. Their opportunities to explore and problem solve were limited for the past two years, yet this year I desperately long for my students to have those experiences.
