I have students who frequently engage in rocking and have communicated a desire to have a rocking chair in our classroom. Because we have a small space the portable rocking chair is a good fit. Other students prefer to bounce or are working on core muscle strength. Chairs such as the exercise ball chair aid greatly in meeting those needs.
Students with low incidence disabilities often have significant sensory and seating position needs. These students benefit from access to a range of dynamic seating options in their environment. Being able to move between different types of seating helps them regulate their sensory systems, improve core muscle strength, and increase autonomy and choice during their time at school.
