I teach at an alternative school, where students are offered a second chance if they have difficulty regularly attending or maintaining passing grades at a traditional school.
Many of our students have difficult or chaotic home lives, and our school is often their main source of stability, food, and positive adult relationships.
Some of our students do come from loving & stable homes, but academic success has taken a backseat to more pressing personal issues, such as working to contribute to household finances, providing childcare (for siblings or their own children), working through moderate/major medical situations, addressing their mental health struggles, or dealing with bullying problems.
My goal is to provide a safe environment where students' basic needs are met while working to recover credit and earn a high school diploma.
