Our school’s technology is currently outdated throughout the entire campus. As counselors we need to prepare S.O.S. lessons, coping skills lessons, academic planning sessions, credit checks, and help with credit retrieval sessions. There are multiple times when we need to meet with students outside our offices or even virtually at times. Having reliable equipment will help me and other counselors connect with our students in a more efficient manner. Students will benefit from this by having us being able to provide more engaging class presentations and lessons i.e. Nearpod, Quizizz, Kahoot!, etc. Students will also benefit by being able to meet with us individually or in groups virtually since we would now have the proper equipment to do so.
More importantly, students will also benefit from this by being able to meet with us outside of our offices and discuss academic progress or credit checks remotely without having to come into the counseling office and lose instructional time by walking back and forth; this also happens during some weekends when we offer “APEX Saturdays” which is when students can work on catching up on some classes virtually and we meet with them to check on their progress as well as additional classes we may need to enroll them in on the spot. Ultimately, having this type of equipment will help students year-round by being more connected with their counselors and reduce the loss of a lot of instructional time.
