Snacks like these will motivate my students to try their best and allow them to focus wholeheartedly on the learning. I currently have 4 classes with approximately 94 students and I want to be able to make sure all of them can enjoy snacks during the learning process. In addition, my students reside in a poverty-stricken neighborhood in Baltimore, Maryland and many of them may not have the pleasure of unwrapping a candy or chocolate regularly. I want to show my appreciation for my students by giving them snacks I know they really enjoy. Many of the students I have this year are students I had least year, which means I am familiar with their favorite snacks.
Unfortunately, my 5th and 6th graders will not have lunch until 1:45 pm, which means I need your help in quieting their stomach rumbles via snacks.
In addition, many of my students may not receive dinner at home every night and may not be on time for breakfast which could mean as long as 12 hours without a meal! Furthermore, students who are hungry have difficulty connecting ideas as well as making good decisions. My goal is to ensure I can maximize the output of each student. One of the ways I will do this is by decreasing distractions and discomforts such as hunger.
All in all, we must focus on their physiological needs in order to ensure they are making good decisions, connecting concepts, and performing at their best. The Twizzlers, Grandma's cookies, and fruit snacks will work wonders in keeping their focus.
