Students were not given the resources to learn at home during the pandemic. The materials I have requested will help me to bridge some of those gaps. Playing games helps students improve math skills as they use reasoning and logic to navigate the games. During the pandemic my classroom library suffered a great loss, which ultimately hurt my next class. Many of my Covid students took books home and never returned them. I would like to provide high quality literature in my classroom for my students.
These books and games are to ensure my students have access to high quality materials that will bolster success and encourage student learning. STEAM activities are proven to help students enjoy learning through interactive play.
Nevada State Standard 5.ED: 3-5 in the engineering standard is what my students will work on when using the Legos in class.
Nevada State Standard 5.RL.(10) and 5.RF.4 in reading is what I will use the requested books to have my students work on.
The games I would like will support the Nevada State Standard 5.OA.B in math which require students to use identify patterns and relationships. These games also help to create a family atmosphere in the classroom where students are given time to work in groups which is the 5th grade standard CS.IC.4 where students communicate with each other. Also, ME.5.1-2, which helps students with mental healthy. Feeling safe and comfortable in a classroom in imperative if I expect my students to learn.
Building a strong classroom community through all of these activities will bolster learning and foster a classroom that values all students and promotes high academic achievement.
