This project has two parts, and both parts work together to meet my students academic and sensory needs. My students love books with all their hearts, so having a book binding machine would give me the opportunity to make durable books that educationally meet students where they are at, focus on their strengths and interests, and create a personalized learning experience. Teacher-made adaptive books will allow for more individualized texts which will enhance reading instruction and our classroom library in an inclusive and accessible way.
I hope to give my students access to creative ways to express themselves and grow in their interests and abilities. A favorite activity for my students is creating a class book that is centered around the theme of our unit and full of their school work and artwork. The completed books are always a source of joy and pride for them, so a book binding machine would create a more durable finished project.
Along with showcasing their creativity in books, my students also adore music. Songs and dances are incorporated in our learning daily, and I would like to augment this by using musical instruments such as egg shakers and bells. In addition to encouraging self-expression and individuality through music making, the use of instruments will help my students practice following directions, taking turns, and listening to their peers.
