For students to be successful at school, good attendance is critical. Low attendance is an issue that impacts a large portion of our students. In working with these students, I have noticed trends of barriers that prevent them from attending school. I have included items that would be helpful for students to feel welcomed, comfortable, and therefore successful in class.
On my list you'll find some unconventional things from your traditional classroom. Our students have a goal of having 80% attendance or higher; as passing is rarely seen in attendance rates that are below that. The items I am asking for are items that will help students to be in school and achieve their attendance goal. These include things such as food; which not having access to can prevent students from being in class. It also includes things such as items to help them have clothing that fits. As well as, items that will help them to focus and be emotionally regulated in school.
