Zoo in our School is a student-run zoo inside Jefferson Middle School with over 50 animals. Students learn about their care, about the animals themselves, and empathy as they work every day to keep their zoo running. We are seeking donations of pet food and supplies to help our zoo operate.
The daily zoo tasks are performed by over 50 student zookeepers and a special education class that feeds all the animals daily. We knew the zoo would be popular, but we had no idea the impact it would have on students of all abilities.
Research has shown that when students take care of animals, they become more empathetic not only to the animals, but all living things. We have already seen evidence of this in our first four months running the zoo. Thank you for reading and helping us!
