100% of my students are socioeconomically disadvantaged and come to school lacking many of the basic necessities to be successful; this includes food. Research has shown that students are able to learn better when they're well nourished. By having a classroom snack shelf, with an abundance of snacks, students can rest assured that they wont' have to just wait until lunch time. Having accessible snacks can yield better memory and alertness, and faster information processing. My biggest regret as a teacher is hearing a child say they're hungry and have nothing to provide.
