We begin each class with time to simply enjoy books through Independent Reading time (normally 25 minutes).
Scholars have complete choice in the book they read (given it is around their level), and my goal is to fill our classroom with a variety of books for a variety of interests--as no two students or the same.
These books will provide more options for my students by black authors.
Scholars can use IR books to gain interest in reading, a passion I believe will impact their future. What they learn through these stories can additionally help them grow in writing.
