My students use scientific calculators to make mathematical sense of real-life data. Calculators are often used in my classroom during chemical reaction labs where students weigh different chemicals and predict the outcome of the reaction using math.
My students deserve the basic resource of a calculator in the chemistry classroom. Usually, students would be asked to purchase their own but given that my students come from low-income backgrounds, I would not want to put this expense on them. These calculators will be securely stored so they can be reused for many years to come.
