I achieved my National Board Certification in 2018. It is a very rigorous and demanding process that only about 3% of teachers nationwide ever achieve. Maintenance of Certification is a renewal process that I must do every 5 years so that my initial certification doesn't expire.
It is the single most important work I've done in my career to impact student learning. The process of becoming NBCT certified has impacted everything about my teaching in the most positive and productive ways; always reflecting and adapting to meet student needs and looking for ways to improve my teaching practice. I was one of the first 4 people to become certified in my district. I want to continue my National Board Maintenance of Certification journey so that I continue impacting students to the best of my ability. "More than a decade of research from across the country confirms that students taught by National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) learn more than students taught by other teachers. ... Study after study has proven that the students of Board-certified teachers learn more — and the impact is greater for low-income students."
