This year, we have seen the dramatic effects of what the pandemic has done to our children academically and socially. We are learning that the academics has become harder because we have had to focus on the social gaps in our students.
Social Emotional Learning is quickly becoming a key factor to our students success. Students are starting to learn how to identify what they are feeling and how to handle those feelings when they arise. These feelings can come out in the form of needing to move and keep their hands and feet busy. We are working on ways to help students stay focused in the classroom by using chair bands and wobble chairs. These tools will help our students be able to move around in a safe and non distracting way.
Our school needs more ways for students to discover their feelings and handle them so that they can focus on the learning. Most of the time students can not verbalize what they are feeling. By having the feelings carpets in our rooms, it will help them to be able to show what they are feeling without having to vocalizing them.
