A lot of science is taught using paper manipulatives, which teachers have to print and cut on their own for their students' use. Our campus has no color printer, and the science department has been relying solely on one of our personal, small color inkjet printers brought from home. And it's getting used to death!
My students respond especially well to so-called "station labs," where lab groups move between multiple stations to complete different tasks and activities, and all of these stations labs require the production of multiple sets of paper manipulatives printed in color.
And of course, once things get printed they need to be cut out. Scissors are great for small things, but a heavy-duty paper cutter is really critical for cleanly cutting through cardstock or laminated items.
