As a new teacher, I received the furniture that other teachers in the district no longer want. Each item seems to be a different color that is also very bright, that they stand out and nothing matches (i.e. 3 different colored tables, 4 different colored chairs, etc.). Although I am thankful for what I was given, children do best in settings with neutral colors and more natural-like items. Additionally, having matching items/themes creates a structured and calming environment for my students with autism.
Having a classroom that is well put together helps with student behaviors and learning. It will make the classroom less "busy" looking and can assist in concentration with the lessons being taught. I, unfortunately, do not get the funding through the district to make these changes. I am requesting items that would be appreciated for being bought at once rather than overtime. I would love to make a difference for this district and help the school make strides towards the new theories and research being founded on classroom environments. Thank you!
