My students love any opportunity to paint. We traditionally paint on watercolor paper, but I would love to give them canvases to work on. In 4th grade, students learn about the full set color wheel, and how to create all 12 colors with just the three primary colors. After creating their own color wheel, students then get to create a painting on their own using all of the colors.
I want to introduce my students to the artist Leonid Afremov and have them be inspired to create their own colorful artworks. Having access to a canvas to paint on will make my students feel like the artists they really are. It will also allow the colors they create to really pop, without blending and mixing the way it does on watercolor paper.
