We have many students whose families are working hard but it's just not quite enough. Many of our families have to cut corners with their food budget in order to make ends meet in other places. While we encourage students to bring snacks, water, and juices from home or to eat as many fruits and vegetables to try and fill up during lunch, they still get hungry during the day. We have students who are not able to chew, which make it hard for teachers to provide a snack. These snacks, juices, and pureed food will allow me to meet the basic needs of these students, which will increase students learning.
Right now teachers are spending their own money to meet the dietary needs of their students.
Granting this request will take away that burden. These snacks will be kept in a designated life skill classroom pantry, accessible to teachers when they have students in need.
