The high school E-Sports team in Gainesville, GA is raising funds to construct highly effective and affordable air-filtration units for distribution to the classrooms of teachers considered high-risk for serious complications resulting from COVID-19, and if given the opportunity, to all classrooms in our school, our cluster, and the county. School is better when it’s open, and safe schools stay open. These materials will benefit students in the following two ways: 1) An authentic learning experience: The construction and distribution of the Corsi Air Boxes will be a student-run project-based-learning experience led by students on the e-sports team but any student interested can participate in this project. Students will divide into groups and come up with a plan to most efficiently, construct, decorate, and deliver these Corsi Air Boxes. Students will grow their skills in leadership, communication, planning, and goal setting through this experience. 2) A safer learning environment: Feeling safe is a major pre-requisite for a quality learning experience. While these Corsi Air Boxes by no means offer total protection against COVID-19, they are a visible layer of protection, that will mitigate disease spread, help keep school open, and offer some reassurance that the learning environment is indeed safe.
