The use of yoga mats in my classroom will give my students the opportunity to fully engage in the practice of Yoga. We have been trying a few standing yoga exercises but we are very limited by only being able to stand. I don't want my students to get on the hard and sometimes dirty floor since it will be painful and definitely not sanitary especially in times of Covid.
"A growing body of research has already shown that yoga can improve focus, memory, self-esteem, academic performance, and classroom behavior, and can even reduce anxiety and stress in children." This statement taken from Harvard Health Publishing is just one of the many examples of the positive benefits yoga has on children in school. By giving my students the tools they need to self soothe, regulate, focus, and calm their minds, they will be more able to learn and become successful not just in school but in all areas of their lives.
