To help my students learn amid the pandemic, I would like to provide 3 different centers in my classroom, two for collaboration and one for relaxation. They have missed the opportunity of learning to work together as teams for all different problem-solving skills. Each designated area would be defined by one of the area rugs. The rugs will give them a perimeter to work within and also make it easier than sitting on the hard cold floor. Another area is at our hexagon table that seats 6 where the flexible seating - the stools requested would be utilized. These areas will be used to do hands-on experiments, puzzles, and the new manipulatives-stem bins listed below.
I have found that during the pandemic students need time with each other and then they need time to work in solitude.
This is where the 3rd area will be: "chill-out" and a relaxing reading area. The rug and bean bags will be a calming center where they can reflect and work in solitude and/or curl up with a good book. Since many of my students don't have the internet at home I am encouraging their adventures to be immersed in enjoyable literature.
These materials that I am requesting will allow our students to work in centers, collaborate with their peers, enjoy flexible seating and have a calm place to retreat. Please consider the request so I can make an impact on my classroom and my wonderful students.
