These garden beds will make a huge difference in the lives of the students. Students will have opportunities to engage in hands-on learning in an outdoor setting. The students will work across content areas (math, reading, science, art) to help create the school garden. All other materials needed for the garden have been, or will be, donated and the materials we need to move forward are garden beds. Students will learn about different life cycles, decomposition, soils and composting, what plants need to survive, and the value of a garden in this fast paced, changing world. They will also learn about drought-tolerant, native plants and the importance of these in their community. This will benefit all grade levels, as the goal is to eventually have a garden bed for each class. Many students do not have the ability to have a garden at home, and deserve to have on at school. Students will be able to harvest any fruits, vegetables, and herbs grown to take home to their families. This garden would be a huge asset to the school and the entire school community is looking forward to it.
