The incentives I am requesting for my students seem small, but they really motivate them, they make them feel proud of themselves. In my classroom we constantly celebrate and reward achievements, no matter how small they are. My students are from low economic areas, they struggle in reading, comprehension, and writing. Most of my children are also English learners. Something as simple as a smelly sticker or a smelly pencil does wonders to their self esteem, and their motivation. They look forward to coming to class, ready to learn something new!
