Many of the students that I see may only have one school notebook. They enjoy reading and most of them get their books from our library. When I have given them their own journal in the past, their eyes light up and they cherish them.
I would love to be able to give them not only a therapeutic book, but a therapeutic fidget, anxiety ring, or workbook as well. The amount of anxiety that we have in school now is palpable. As a mental health therapist, I know that therapy is very helpful, but they go home at the end of the day. These tools are something they can take with them and continue to use at home when they need that extra support. My hope is they will share their tools and how they are learning from them with their parents and siblings.
