My awesome ninth grade students will be greatly engaged with this project. They will build a DNA model with edible components (Twizzlers and marshmallows) and then will be able to eat it afterward. In addition, students will learn about the structure of DNA in the process. They will learn how DNA is in the shape of a double helix. They will also learn how the bases pair up (adenine pairs with thymine, cystosine pairs with guanine). They will also learn how the base pairs are held together by hydrogen bonds. Overall, they will learn and have fun.
