Recently, as a teacher I was asked to sit through an 8 hour training. We were required to sit in a seat, listen, and interact with our colleagues. And oh my goodness! I felt so much sympathy for my students because I could not sit still! Towards the end I didn't even know what the speaker was saying! I just needed to move my body. After that day, I have given my students more opportunities to move around. Even sitting on the ground with their laptop in their chair instantly pulls their attention to their learning.
I want my students to be able to move their bodies in order to increase their focus! As an adult I can't stand sitting in a chair all day, even with small breaks in between, and I am asking 8 year olds to do it? Giving my students exciting new ways to pull their attention even from something as simple as where they put their bums is something I am striving to explore as a 1st year teacher!
